Past gets ahead of the present

30 November 2009

The sporting prowess of our alumni won the day in the annual sporting tournament Past v Present.

Alumni were the overall winners on the day as they took part in a a host of sports, including Basketball, Hockey, Rugby, Netball, Cricket, Squash, Badminton, Football and Gaelic Football.

This annual sports tournament, now in its eighteenth year, took place in the University’s Olympia Building.

Rounding off Academic Awards week, around 200 graduates returned to the University to participate in the tournament, facing stiff competition from the current students.

Mark Hawkings, Head of Sport and Recreation, said: 'The event is a great opportunity for graduates, from as far back as twenty years ago, to return to Middlesbrough. And this year they returned to the University of the Year.

'It's a great chance to catch up socially with friends and take part in what is a very competitive sports tournament.'

The tournament is organised by the University’s Sport and Well-being Team with support from the Alumni Association, Vice-Chancellor’s Executive and Teesside University Students’ Union.
