Happy 80th birthday

02 July 2010

This year we reach 80 years of inspiring education at Teesside and our staff and students are in the mood to celebrate.

Staff, students, alumni and honorary graduates have been sending us their birthday greetings so we went out on campus to capture the atmosphere and messages on camera.

Teesside is proud to be the University of the Year in the Times Higher Education awards – the first modern university to scoop the accolade and the mood on campus has been vibrant and buoyant.

And we were delighted to find people of all ages and from all over the world ready to send a birthday greeting to Teesside University – their University.

80th AnniversaryProfessor Graham Henderson, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, says: ‘80 years old and yet still so young... but what a journey so far. From humble roots Teesside has matured into a University with great stature and I am immensely proud to be its Chief Executive.

‘Everything the University has achieved, up to and including becoming the first modern University to ever become national University of the Year, is a tribute to its staff, its students and its partners.

‘I can't help feeling that we have only seen the start of the career of our wonderful institution. Happy birthday… and here's to continued success in the future.’

Singer, songwriter and honorary graduate Paul Rodgers says: ‘When we know more we can do more. Here's to another 80 years of inspiring minds. Congratulations Teesside University on your 80th Anniversary.’

Professor Eric Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol and honorary graduate, says ‘You are a shining beacon on Teesside and I am very proud to be associated with you.’

Actress and honorary graduate Thelma Barlow says: ‘As an honorary graduate it is my pride and delight to wish Teesside University a most sincere happy birthday. Your recent awards are a well deserved recognition of your achievement in education.’

If you’d like to send us a birthday wish, a picture or video email it to us at webadmin@tees.ac..uk. We'd love to use it on our site.
