Students’ Union is ticking all the right boxes

26 January 2011

The University’s Students’ Union has been recognised nationally for its commitment to providing help and support to disabled people.

It has been awarded Two Ticks accreditation by Jobcentre Plus, which requires an organisation to:

  • always interview disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements for a position
  • get regular feedback from disabled employees about how they can develop and use their abilities
  • do everything possible to retain staff who develop a disability
  • ensure all staff are helped to develop greater disability awareness
  • keep reviewing and improving on the commitments set out by Jobcentre Plus.

Lori Wheatman, President of the Students’ Union said: ‘The Trustees and staff at the Students’ Union are delighted to have been awarded this accreditation.

‘I hope it’s another strong indication of our commitment to ensuring we not only give disabled people every opportunity to seek employment with us but that once in their various roles they have all the support they need to be successful.

‘While we’re very proud of the accreditation we know there is always more we can do to help and support both disabled staff and customers. We’ll keep reviewing our working practices and the environment we provide to ensure both remain at a very high standard.’
