Springfield’s finest family calculates the way

24 February 2011

Over 100 Tees Valley sixth-form students learned how the world’s most famous cartoon family links with modern maths when they met stand-up comic and mathematician Matt Parker at Teesside University.

Matt visited the University as part of his national tour to engage people of all ages in maths, using a range of presentations and hands-on activities.

His presentation for lower sixth-form students included references to the USA’s most famous family, The Simpsons. He also held a similar event for a large group of local Year 10 pupils.

The students were invited to the University as part of Teesside’s widening participation activities. The lectures, funded by the Further Mathematics Support Programme, were attended by over 400 Year 10 pupils and over 100 sixth form students from across schools and colleges in the North East.
