Celebrating a centenary of International Women’s Day

Teesside University is celebrating International Women’s Day with a range of inspirational female speakers.

International Women’s Day, which is in its centenary year, is a global day of recognition and celebration – this year on Tuesday 8 March.

Events taking place at the University include:

>An evening event in the Phoenix Building, Room G.13, 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Tuesday 8 March. This includes an entertaining look at the history of suffrage, along with a film illustrating how women’s lives have changed over the last century.

>Representations of women, a themed art exhibition introduced by Professor Gerda Roper, Dean of the University’s School of Arts & Media, 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Wednesday 9 March, in the Constantine Gallery.

>A lunchtime lecture by Dr Rachel Carroll, Principal Lecturer in English, from noon to 1pm on Friday 11 March, in Middlesbrough Tower, Room 5.02.

>Published authors and lecturers Carol Clewlow and Barbara Gamble will present a reading and talk about their work from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Tuesday 15 March, in Room G.13, Phoenix Building.

>Research Fellow Dr Joan Heggie will give a lecture focusing on the area’s inspirational women, from 12.30pm to 2.00pm on Thursday 31 March, in Room G.13, Phoenix Building.

There will also be displays in the University’s Library highlighting International Women’s Day and female authors, along with an exhibition planned for the Constantine Gallery.
