Students are picture perfect

31 March 2011

A picture paints a thousand words – and our students have a lot to say in the new University prospectus through a series of inspiring photographs.

A number of Teesside’s current students took part in photo shoots for the 2012 undergraduate full-time prospectus.

The images have been used in a creative and inspiring way to promote the University and the local area to prospective students.

In a new approach to creating the prospectus, current students were involved from the beginning – helping to plan shoots at some of their favourite locations on Teesside.

The aim was to showcase not just the University and the courses, but also the local area and student experience at Teesside – which has been named as England’s top new university for student experience winning the title in the Times Higher Education student experience survey 2010.

The prospectus was put together by the University’s Department of Marketing and Student Recruitment, which has recently been shortlisted for eight national Heist awards for higher education marketing – including the prestigious Marketing Department of the Year.

Giving something back to the University Liam Haveron, who is studying BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science, said: ‘It’s been really good promoting the University in this way - it’s like giving something back to the University which has given so much to me.’

Jason Forrest, BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering, added: ‘I think doing things like this is great. It shows another side to the University. There’s the courses and the academic side but it’s also about having fun and the people and enjoying the local area.’

Lucy Reeves, a second year BA (Hons) Television and Film Production student, agreed and said: ‘Being at University, it’s very important to get involved with as much as you can, like the prospectus or social clubs. It makes you feel more complete as a student.’

A fantastic student experience Reflecting on the success of the new look prospectus, Sharon Bimson, Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications in the Department for Marketing and Student Recruitment, said: ‘We are delighted with the new look prospectus and believe it truly reflects the fantastic experience students will have at Teesside University and highlights why we were named England’s top new university for student experience.

‘Getting our students involved in the planning and preparation of the photo shoots was an inspired decision which yielded some amazing results. The whole department worked extremely hard on putting this prospectus together and to now learn we have been shortlisted for no fewer than eight national Heist awards for higher education marketing is justification of all the hard work we are doing.’
