Crime writers converged for annual conference

05 April 2011

Some of the finest crime writers in Britain stopped off at the University while in the region for their annual conference.

The Crime Writers’ Association’s annual conference, which represents the interests of crime writers around the country, was hosted at the Blackwell Grange Hotel in Darlington.

Forensic anthropologist Dr Tim Thompson, of Teesside University, was among speakers at the event, which was attended by writers from across the country.

Around 30 delegates also spent time during the conference at Teesside University, hosted by the Centre for Forensic Investigation. Brian Rankin, Head of the Centre for Forensic Investigation, welcomed the crime writers to the campus, where a courtroom exercise was set up involving eyewitness accounts.

They also saw the University’s Crime House and vehicle labs, gaining unique insight into forensic investigation.

Crime Writers’ Association chairman Tom Harper said, ‘The annual conference is always a wonderful occasion when old friends can catch up with each other, while broadening their knowledge through a series of fascinating expert talks.’
