We are the champions

14 April 2011

The Students’ Union men’s basketball team are celebrating their success after clinching the league title.

They won the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league after a dramatic final victory over Sheffield Hallam.

In their final game, the team won by 126 points to 55 points to finish top with nine wins from 10 games and pipping Leeds Metropolitan University to the trophy on points difference.

Tony Clapham, Student Activities Officer at the Students’ Union said: ‘A massive congratulations to everyone in the team and the club on a great achievement against some high quality opposition. Men’s basketball has shown the benefit of battling on to the very last second of every match and it’s fantastic to see them win the league in such dramatic fashion.’

Rob Parsons, Chair of Teesside University men’s basketball, added: ‘The boys have been in superb form throughout the season and we were always confident we could take the league title even with it going down to the last game.

‘It feels great to bring a bit of silverware to Teesside and while the men’s first team obviously take most of the credit I think the whole club will enjoy this victory.’
