Public to be judges for Darlington photographic competition

16 May 2011

The University has asked people what inspires them about Darlington as part of a photography competition.

And now members of the public are being asked to play a part in voting for their favourite visual image.

Among the many competition entries received from the general public by the University were photographs of Darlington’s people, landscape, focal points across the town and images depicting their own personal memories.

Darlington is a vibrant and cultural town with a rich history – and it’s also the location of Teesside University’s new £13m five-storey campus, which is due to open this summer. The new 4,000 sq metre, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching building is located at Central Park, Haughton Road.

The aim of the photography competition, which links to the opening of the University’s new campus, has been to encourage people to visually depict what is special to them about Darlington.

Shortlisted photographs will be displayed on the University’s website, with visitors to the website asked to vote for their favourite. Voting is open until the end of June.

The entries are being judged in the following age categories - 11 to 16 years, 17 to 21 years and over 22 years. A winner from each category will each receive £100 worth of photography vouchers. The winning photograph from each age category, along with the image from each runner-up, will be framed and displayed in Teesside University's new campus in Darlington. The winning photographers and their families will be invited to the launch of the new campus.
