Teesside rises up the national rankings

Teesside University has soared into the top 60 national rankings, according to the new Guardian University Guide.

In the 2012 Guide, published on 17 May, Teesside has risen 19 places from last year.

Teesside University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Henderson, CBE, said: 'After recently learning that our ranking in the Complete University Guide had improved by 12 places in one year, I am absolutely delighted that the University's progress has once again been reflected by a significant improvement within another recognised national league table.

'To improve our overall ranking in the Guardian University League Table by 19 places in one year is a true testament to the rapid progress that the University is making in enhancing both its achievements and its national standing and reputation. 'Staff at Teesside continually strive to place the needs of students and our business partners at the heart of everything we do, and to provide our students with the best possible experience that we can, and it is immensely encouraging to see our progress in that regard being more clearly reflected in the public information available to students.'

The Guardian University Guide for 2012 rated universities against the following criteria:

>teaching quality, as rated by final-year students in the national student survey (NSS): percentage of students satisfied >feedback and assessment, as rated by final-year students in the NSS: percentage of students satisfied >NSS results when final-year students were asked about overall course quality >spending per student - as a banded score out of 10 >staff-student ratio: number of students per member of teaching staff >career prospects: proportion of graduates who find graduate-level employment or full-time study, within six months of graduation >value added: comparing students' individual results with their entry qualifications - as a banded score out of 10. This helps show the effectiveness of an institution’s teaching, the extent to which a department helps students to exceed expectation >entry qualifications (UCAS tariff score).

Success follows success This follows Teesside University’s recent success as England's top new university for student experience winning the title in the Times Higher Education student experience survey 2010.

More than 13,000 full-time undergraduate students took part in the Times Higher poll, which highlights where best practice occurs.

Teesside scored highly for high quality lectures and helpful interested staff, a good library and library opening hours, centralised convenient facilities on campus, a highly rated Students' Union and great social life and well structured courses with industry connections - excellent when it comes to getting a job.
