Join in with our activities to support World Mental Health Week

We are supporting World Mental Health Week with a series of activities across the University for students and staff.

World Mental Health Week runs from 10 to 14 October and is a global event for mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

This year the University is marking World Mental Health Week with a series of activities which will see mental health organisations across the University and the wider Tees Valley join together to raise awareness about mental illness and its effects on people’s lives, promote community outreach and provide public education regarding mental health and wellbeing. Activities during the week include art events, educational sessions provided by healthcare professionals, advertising campaigns, mental health fairs and movie nights.

Monday 10 October • Market stall event – Postgraduate Lounge, 11.00am to 3.00pm • The Occupational Therapy Society will be offering relaxation workshops, biscuit decorating and information and advice from 11.00am to 3.00pm in the Postgraduate Lounge • Mandala – a growing and evolving piece of art, 11.00am to 3.00pm - This will take place outside the Students’ Union, weather permitting. In the event of bad weather it will be moved into the postgraduate lounge. • SuicideTALK - a 90-minute exploration in suicide awareness, 5.30pm to 7.00pm, Middlesbrough Tower, M4.02.

Tuesday 11 October • Movie night one – Lars and the Real Girl, 5.45pm to 8.00pm, Europa building, OL7.

Wednesday 12 October • Middlesbrough Hearts and Minds - University launch for audio CDs, 3.00pm to 5.00pm, Postgraduate Lounge • SuicideTALK – a 90-minute exploration in suicide awareness, 12.00pm to 1.30pm, Middlesbrough Tower, M6.09.

Thursday 13 October • Movie night two – A Beautiful Mind, 5.45pm - 8.00pm, Europa building, OL1.

Friday 14 October • Self-hypnosis for relaxation – 2.00pm - 3.00pm, Well-being Centre, Brittan building, second floor.
