Teesside’s student radio station aims for tuneful treble

21 October 2011

Teesside University’s student radio station Click is broadcasting news of its third successive year of national recognition.

Click has been nominated for the best outside broadcast at this year’s BBC Radio One Student Radio Awards.

The station was shortlisted for its marathon 24-hour Click-a-thon broadcast in aid of Comic Relief earlier this year, which involved three presenters caged up in the Students’ Union building for 24 hours. The presenters completed a series of forfeits while broadcasting their show live to raise money.

Members of the Click team will travel to London’s O2 on November 9 when Radio One presenters Scott Mills and Annie Mac will host the SRA awards and announce the winners.

Lucy Reeves, Click production manager and presenter, said: 'This is my third year working on the station and it just gets better every year. As a station we’ve grown massively and continue to become more professional. Click has opened up so many opportunities and hopefully opened some for the future after I leave Teesside.'

Great to be recognised The BA (Hons) Television and Film Production student added: 'The Click-a-thon was one of our massive events of last year. So much hard work went in to it, as well as lots of willpower to stay awake throughout the 24 hours. It's great to be recognised for our hard work though and fingers crossed we'll get an award.'

Last year Click was shortlisted for two awards in the national Student Radio Association’s 2010 awards in the category of Best Technical Achievement and Best Marketing/Station Sound and the year prior to that, Click earned Silver award in the Chart Show of the Year category in the Student Radio Association’s 2009 awards.

Dominic Dunn, the station’s assistant producer, said: 'It’s a fantastic achievement for the station and all involved. The station is continually getting recognised for quality broadcasting.

'It’s a real tribute and testament to the students who give up their time to support radio here at Teesside University.'

Click, which broadcasts from Aurora House on campus, is aimed at students and staff with programmes focusing on campus life, events happening across the region and primarily music.

The station was launched in January 2008 and is streamed live through the University’s online network.
