The centrepiece is the amazing Octorama Melarama, a unique eight-screen display complete with sound show, featuring the sights and sounds of the multicultural festival, held every year since 1990.

The show is free of charge and will be open to the public in the Constantine Gallery, Middlesbrough Tower, from 2 to 5 November, 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Digital celebration
Visitors will be able to experience the Mela through images and video going back over the past 21 years. The sounds include voices and audio recorded in Albert Park in Middlesbrough, where the Mela is held. Memorabilia and posters will also be on show.

The exhibition has been co-ordinated by the University’s DigitalCity Innovation (DCI) team in partnership with the School of Arts & Media.

Formerly the Institute of Digital Innovation, DCI brings together outstanding digital talent and expertise to support business and community growth in the area. Over the past three years it has created a record 132 digital businesses and 190 jobs, and works closely with local communities.

Steve Thompson, DCI’s community engagement co-ordinator, said: 'This is a digital celebration born out of a real festival and it is fantastic to bring the two together.

'I hope people will come in and experience the Octorama. This is a different space to previous Octorama installations so we are taking a different approach, meaning it is experimental, new territory, which is everything DigitalCity Innovation is about.'
