Green approach brings gold for Students’ Union

Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU) is celebrating gold accreditation in a prestigious national initiative recognising student led organisations who work to limit their impact on the environment and operate in a sustainable way.

The Green Impact Awards are run by the National Union of Students (NUS) and organisations who participate undergo a thorough analysis of the measures they take to limit their negative impact on the environment.

TUSU received gold status in recognition of its on site recycling facilities for both staff and students, various initiatives to avoid wasting light and heat.

As well as the high profile Green Tees campaign aimed at raising environmental awareness amongst students at Teesside University, they encouraging them to help the Students’ Union become ever more environmentally sound.

Jenny Gill, Campaigns and Welfare Officer at the Students’ Union and lead officer on the bid for gold in the Green Impact Awards said:

'Here at the Students’ Union we take our responsibility to operate in a sustainable way and limit our impact on the environment very seriously.

'I’m absolutely thrilled that after a rigorous analysis of our practices over the past few months we’ve been awarded gold in such a high profile and demanding initiative, it’s a wonderful testament to the great work done by Officers, Staff and of course students over the past year to make TUSU even greener than before.'

The Students’ Union will be presented with the award at a NUS ceremony on 4th April.
