Bridging the gap between graduates and media businesses

21 September 2012

A unique conference designed to bring together academics and media professionals has been held at Teesside University.

Bridging the Gap addressed issues of employability and entrepreneurship within the digital creative sector.

The two day conference, jointly organised by the University and Creative Skillset, examined how to improve the relationship between universities and media businesses to give graduates the best possible employment opportunities.

Christa Van Raalte, Head of Media at Teesside University, said: ‘The Bridging the Gap conference was a great success and enabled both academics and people from within the industry to look at the creative digital sector from alternative perspectives.

‘Through this conference we were able to identify productive education-industry partnerships that are transferable, scalable and sustainable so we can best support students in developing the skills and attitudes they need for careers in the media.’

Bridging the Gap was held at Teesside University on 12 and 13 September. David Docherty, Chief Executive of the Council for Industry and Higher Education, was the key note speaker.
