Adam is hoping to go far with innovative bike designs

15 November 2012

An entrepreneurial student has created a new and innovative way of helping workers make their daily commute to the office.

Adam Taylor, who graduates from Teesside University with an MA Future Design, has developed TIM, an eco-friendly commuter bike which encourages employees to cycle to work.

The bike, made of sustainable materials, uses a smart card system which tracks movement using GPS enabling users to keep a log of exactly how far they have travelled.

Adam said: '75% of workers live within a 30 minute radius of their workplace but the majority still choose to drive a car to work instead of looking at other eco-friendly methods.'

TIM was developed by Adam with the aim of reducing the carbon emissions of work forces and improving the personal health of employees. He hopes companies with large workforces, such as call centres, will back the idea and buy the bike in bulk.

'Companies could then loan the bike to its workers free of charge, helping to keep them fit and lower the businesses carbon footprint,' explained Adam.

TIM is Adam’s first creation in what he has branded Go Fara bikes. He added: 'I want to create a whole family of them. TIM is specifically designed for workers in mind, but I want to create many more for different clients.'

Adam said it was studying MA Future Design and working with other like-minded students at Teesside that gave him the inspiration for his Go Fara initiative.

'Without the help of everyone on my course I don’t think I would have ever been able to create what I have,'said Adam.

'The standard of talent on the course was unbelievable. Every discipline was catered for.'

Adam, who originally planned to become a teacher, came to Teesside University after hearing great things about the MA Future Design course.

He added: 'I spoke to lecturers who recommended the course for its facilities and the standard of teaching and they weren’t wrong.'

Adam hopes to move to London or Australia in the future to develop a career as an industrial designer while still developing the Go Fara range further.

'I’ve really enjoyed my time at Teesside University and I am proud of what I have achieved,' said Adam.

'I want to continue learning and take this concept as far as I can.'
