Lindsay receives top industrial award

A Teesside University graduate has won a prestigious industrial award, becoming the first female from her company to do so.

Lindsay Amos, who graduated with a MSc Forensic Investigation in 2010, applied for the NEPIC Young Achievers Award through Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, where she is a Senior Programme Manager.

NEPIC (North East of England Process Industry Cluster) was setup to help nurture and support collaborations within the process industry. Lindsay, 32, said: ‘I’m really proud to have won the award and it did feel good being recognised in a very male dominated industry. My studies at Teesside have definitely given me both report writing and investigation skills, which have been very relevant to my work.’ Lindsay, from Billingham, put herself forward for consideration for the accolade, with Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies having a successful record in the NEPIC Awards and the Young Achievers category open to anyone under the age of 35. She said: ‘Our company has an outstanding record in these awards and they are always well advertised in the staff newsletter. The application asked you to write about your career, education and experience in under 750 words. As well as her master’s degree, Lindsay also has a BSc (Hons) Microbiology from Teesside University after graduating in 2002 and has worked at Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies for almost ten years. She added: ‘I would say to any females who are new to the industry or thinking of entering to not let the ratio of men to women put you off. If you do encounter prejudice at first don’t give up, it’s very satisfying to successfully prove yourself when you’re in the minority.’
