Esh Group adds value to Darlington Cares

24 June 2013

A project to improve a local community arts venue has been unveiled by Darlington Cares.

In partnership with Esh Added Value, the corporate social responsibility arm of construction company, Esh Group, the project will involve work to improve the exterior of The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts located, off Hundens Lane.

Staff and volunteers from Esh Group, along with other volunteers from Darlington Cares will be working to landscape green space immediately outside of The Bridge as well as painting the interior and exterior.

The Bridge opened in July 2012 and its development has been supported by Creative Darlington, whose vision is for Darlington to be a place where the arts and creativity are central to the town’s future identity and economic success. The Bridge is used by a range of different groups including the Community Arts Project which provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities to engage in visual art activities and The Open Art Studio, offering artistic activities to reduce stress and encourage relaxation. The proposed improvements will enable these groups in addition to artists, courses, and children and families to have improved outdoor space to utilise for activities and programme development.

Professor Cliff Hardcastle, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Business Engagement) at Teesside University and chair of Darlington Cares says: ‘This is another fantastic example of local businesses demonstrating their commitment to improving local communities, which is at the heart of Darlington Cares.’

Esh Group recently announced it is to build 84 new homes at Cockerton, as part of a major investment in the area.

In addition to work at the Bridge, Esh Group is delivering its Esh Employability programme at Darlington School for Maths and Science. The programme focuses on the skills employers look for and the tools young people need for the world of work.

Graham Morgan, Operations Director, Esh Property Services said: ‘As an affordable housing regeneration company delivering new and refurbished housing our sites are always at the heart of someone’s community. Our site in Cockerton delivering 84 new homes and refurbishing 142 existing homes is a great scheme for Darlington - we believe it will give a great boost to the area and working with Darlington Cares is an excellent opportunity for us to give back to the community.’
