Children step up fundraising to help hospice

01 July 2013

Fundraising toddlers from Teesside University’s Nursery took part in a sponsored walk in aid of children’s hospice Zoe’s Place.

A group of 19 children, from babies carried by parents to four-year-old toddlers, completed a route within Middlesbrough’s Albert Park.

They have raised £800 for Zoe’s Place children’s hospice in Normanby, which provides respite and palliative care for children from birth to age five.

Janet Graham, Nursery Manager, said: 'The weather was a bit drizzly on the day, but the children and their parents really enjoyed taking part in the walk, especially as it was for a really good cause. People have been so generous.

'We chose to support Zoe’s Place as it’s local and is for children and also as they rely heavily on contributions from fundraisers. We’ve been looking at their website with the children, who have enjoyed learning all about the important work which Zoe’s Place does.'

Elaine Dunning, corporate fundraiser at Zoe’s Place, said: 'It costs a million pounds each year to run Zoe’s Place. We get only around a fifth of our funding from the Government and Primary Care Trust, so we rely heavily on the generosity and goodwill of businesses and people who can help us to raise funds to remain open.'

Anyone wanting to sponsor the children to help boost the £800 already presented to Zoe’s Place can contact Janet on j.graham@tees.ac.uk
