Thousands set to celebrate Teesside University’s graduations

Around 4,000 graduates will gather at Middlesbrough Town Hall with family and friends to celebrate Teesside University’s annual academic awards ceremonies, this year running over seven days.

A total of 14 ceremonies will take place from Monday 25 November to Tuesday 3 December, with awards ranging from foundation degrees to undergraduate degrees, master’s and doctorates.

An academic procession will set off from the University’s Centuria Building at 10.00am Monday 25 November, taking in a route along Albert Road to the Town Hall.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to 12 leading individuals during the academic awards, including Strictly Come Dancing star and actor Mark Benton, who was born in Middlesbrough.

He will be joined by autism charity director Anna Kennedy OBE, Delta Air Lines boss Graeme Burnett, BBC journalist Stephanie McGovern, acclaimed author Richard Milward, Sheffield Forgemasters International chief executive Professor Graham Honeyman CBE, football coach David Parnaby, HM Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Lord Crathorne, Professor Charles Greenough, of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Dr Joy Shi, President of Hong Kong Institute of Technology; Tony Waites, of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and Ken Home OBE, founder of K Home Engineering.

Professor Graham Henderson CBE DL, Vice-Chancellor of Teesside University, said: 'I am sure that our students will enjoy sharing their personal success with such inspiring role models.'

He added: 'We are very much looking forward to our graduates and their guests celebrating their achievements at our annual graduation celebrations.'
