Volunteers invited to sign up at criminal justice event

25 October 2015

Students and Teesside residents are being offered a chance to volunteer within the criminal justice system.

The third annual Criminal Justice Volunteer Fair, jointly organised and championed by Cleveland's Police and Crime Commissioner and Teesside University's Volun-tees programme, is on Monday 2 November from 10.00am to 3.00pm.

Following on from the success of past events, this year the fair is in a new location on the University campus – The Curve Building - enabling more organisations to get involved.

Among the many organisations taking part are Victim Support, Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND, Boro Angels, Safe in Tees Valley and many more from across the criminal justice landscape which provide crucial services to victims of crime and anti-social behaviour and their families.

Barry Coppinger, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland said: 'I am pleased to once again work in partnership with Teesside University for a third successive year to bring together criminal justice agencies and widely promote the many volunteering opportunities they have available.

'Volunteering is a great way to develop your skills to impress employers or to just simply give something back to the community. I would encourage anyone with an interest in volunteering or the criminal justice system to come along and speak one-to-one to the many organisations that will be present.'

Jayne Golden, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Teesside University said: 'We are delighted to support and host the PCC Criminal Justice Fair. The organisations attending provide volunteers with a wide range of opportunities which help to make a difference to the lives of local people and the local community.'
