International Scholarship Ceremony 2015

05 November 2015

Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Dr Aulay Mackenzie, presented International students with their scholarships at a brief ceremony on Wednesday 28 October 2015.

International students are awarded scholarships if they have good academic results and English language proficiency. Students who study creative courses, such as animation, design, media production, who have a good portfolio of work and good English are also awarded with scholarships. This supports their commitment to learning, studying and developing excellence in English language skills during their time at Teesside University.

We took the opportunity to ask what students are enjoying most about Teesside University and our region so far, and how the scholarship will assist them in their development.

Po-An Yen Studying MA Concept Art for Games and Animation “So far I am most impressed with the library here at Teesside University. It is a very good service with many resources and books that are useful to my course. The scholarship is important because it helps me buy expensive materials for my studies I would not be able to buy. I also enjoy the self-directed study which gives me the time to carry out my projects. I also love the region, especially Whitby which I enjoyed so much I joined English Heritage so I can enjoy more of the region while I am here”.

Siting Le Studying MA Concept Art for Games and Animation “The facilities here at Teesside University are excellent. The teaching rooms and studios have everything we need. I also enjoy the many events here at the University. This scholarship helps me to buy specialist art equipment. I have enjoyed my time here so far, especially Whitby, the fish & chips, the Dracula Experience and Whitby Abbey were very enjoyable”.

Shishi Zheng (Sherry) Studying BA (Hons) Business Finance and Accounting “At first I was nervous to speak with local people because I was worried my English was not good. Now I am building confidence as my English is improving. I am making friends from all over the world. It’s really great to communicate with people from many different countries and cultures. My teachers are very friendly, they take time to explain everything really well. I am improving my English and gaining more knowledge”.

International Development would like to thank awarded students on behalf of the University for their commitment to learning. Their dedication goes a long way to inspiring success on an international level.
