Academic’s book recognised in annual awards

20 April 2016

A photography book by Aikaterini Gegisian, Research Lecturer in Contemporary Fine Art, has been shortlisted for an annual award.

A Small Guide to the Invisible Seas is one of 10 books in the running for the annual First Book Award.

Books are nominated by judges, rather than the authors themselves, and the winner will be announced on 18 May.

The First Book Award is a photography publishing prize, established in 2012, open to photographers who have not previously had a book published by a third party publishing house.

A small guide to the invisible seas is a collage series and artist’s book project produced for the National Pavilion of Armenia, 56th Venice Biennale. It consists of 65 collages that are based on an extensive collection of images from photographic albums of Soviet Armenia, Turkey and Greece, dating from the 1960s to the 1980s.
