Star line up at 'pimped' Teesside student party

17 May 2016

MTV is coming Teesside University Students' Union after students clinched the coveted Pimp My Summer Ball competition.

Sigma will perform a headline DJ set as part of a jam packed line up at the Students' Union's 'pimped' final fling on Friday 27 May.

The event runs from noon on Friday through to 4.00am on the Saturday and has been boosted, for the second time in two years, by £50,000 prize money from Club MTV & MTV Trax after Teesside students won the competition prize back in March.

Sigma have enjoyed a string of hits, teaming up with singers Paloma Faith and Rita Ora in recent years and have headlined major dance festivals around the world.

They’re joined on the bill by popular singer/songwriter and rapper Example who regularly collaborated with DJ Wire. He has enjoyed a career which has seen him clock up four chart topping albums and 13 top ten singles.

Also performing is Katy B, a hugely successful solo artist and regular contributor to hit dance tracks, along with electronica maestro Sub Focus. Radio 1 star Charlie Sloth, who presents his own rap show, will also deliver a storming set.

Also joining the line-up are new stars and social media sensations including Joel Corry, Duke, Superhero DJs and Nina Nesbitt.

Students had to compete with fellow universities through social media platform Twitter by showing their support for their university to win. Teesside were comfortable winners for the second time, having previously clinched the prize in 2014.

Alongside the acts performing on stage, there will be fairground rides, Club MTV mystery guests, six separate events zones, a range of other fun attractions and two rooms of music throughout the day and night inside the award winning Students’ Union.

Ashley Mehnert, TUSU President, said: 'Our students and the general public in the area showed incredible collective commitment to win this competition again and we want to make sure we properly reward their efforts.

'We share their pride in both the University and the area so we’re determined to make this another unforgettable event which puts Teesside right back on the national map. The incredible line-up will definitely help with that and the fact we’ve been able to attract so many big names is testament to what a great reputation we’ve got nationally. I hope everyone coming along has an amazing day.'
