She was the host of the annual Teesside University Journalism Awards at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and joined a host of media professionals and staff to recognise the achievements of students.
Winners were selected in categories including News Reporter of the Year, Best Feature Writer and Blogger of the Year and prizes included a number of placements with The Gazette, The Northern Echo and The Hartlepool Mail, along with work experience at Sky Sports News, The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine, The i, BBC Tees and Made in Tyne and Wear.
Dr Ghosh is the former Home Affairs Editor for ITV News. She started her journalism career in local radio and is now a television journalist for Al Jazeera English.
Paul Bailey, Senior Lecturer in Journalism in the University’s School of Arts & Media, said: ‘These awards recognise the hard work and excellent calibre of our current journalism students and the students were thrilled to be awarded their prizes by Dr Ghosh.
'I would like to thank all of the media organisations who generously contributed prizes to this celebration of our students’ achievements and especially our main sponsors Visualsoft.’
A number of special academic awards were also given out, including the NCTJ Prize, for the student with the highest overall marks while training for the National Council of Journalism qualifications.
The prize was a week’s placement at the Daily Mail in London and was presented by the NCTJ’s Chief Executive Joanne Butcher.
