Final year students from Teesside University who completed the annual National Student Survey (NSS) had their names included in a draw with the chance to win a cash prize.

Mathew Curran, 21, who graduates from the BA (Hons) Computer Games Animation this summer, won the top £250 prize. Ten other students received a £50 runner-up prize.

Although unable to collect his prize in person as he is currently working Manchester, Mathew, 21, said: 'The NSS is a great way to give feedback on your course and to give your university the recognition it deserves.

'I recently started working as a facial animator at Cubic Motion in Manchester and I’m loving every minute. I’m doing what I love and getting paid to do it. The degree at Teesside provided me with the essential skills required for the job.'

Other winners received £50:

• Leeanne Chapman, BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Learning Disabilities) (Pre-Registration)

• Mikey Cunningham, BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Sport Studies

• Paige Cutler, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance

• David Harris, FDSC Sport and Exercice (Personal Training), Middlesbrough College

• Danielle Hubery, BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Adult) (Pre-Registration)

• Sophie Lamond, BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies

• Rob Nicholds, BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming

• Adam Stubbs, FDSC Instruction and Exercise Therapies, Middlesbrough College

• Deborah Thompson, FDSC Health and Social Care Practice

• Georgia Wells, BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Adult) (Pre-Registration)

Leanne, 25, who is originally from Essex, said: 'I studied elsewhere before coming to Teesside and much prefer it here, as it’s a really people centred place and the staff are always there for the students.

'I looked at the NSS results before coming here and think it is an important survey as it gives students a voice and helps students when they’re choosing where to study.'

Teesside University’s 2015 National Students’ Survey (NSS) results published last summer showed Teesside had once again matched the overall benchmark for the satisfaction of its 22,000-strong student community with overall satisfaction at the University at 86%.

The Students’ Union (SU) was also ranked as one of the best in the country with overall satisfaction at 85%. This latest plaudit for the SU follows a gold award in the 2015 Best Bar None awards for the quality of its social spaces and licenced premises and also a Gold Standard in the 2015 National Union of Students Green Impact Excellence Awards.

The annual NSS gives undergraduates the chance to rate their university and subject across a whole range of areas including teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support and personal development.
