Bethany, 21, from Middlesbrough, graduates with a First Class BA (Hons) Media Studies and is working as a communications officer with Middlesbrough & Stockton Mind.

She said: 'The degree definitely prepared me for my chosen career path as it led me to set up my blog Polished Couture which has led to so much work experience with numerous companies and has helped me to develop my knowledge in social media, marketing and public relations.

'I have always had a keen interest in films and television and I loved the variety of modules in the degree. The focus was on television and film in the first year, then over the next two years the study was more diverse, such as events management, practical journalism and public relations.

'These modules allowed me to develop so many new skills and helped me to realise I had a flair for social media and public relations. My lecturers helped me to develop my confidence and gave me the determination to follow which ever media career path I wanted.'

Bethany added: 'Before graduating I spent three months as the PR manager for Songbird Bakery, a new business on Bedford Street, nurturing their social media presence as well as creating published articles and organising an opening event.

'I have been able to put into practice all the skills I learned at University. I have been running my blog for nearly three years and it has provided opportunities to work with so many businesses, get involved in blogger trips to Edinburgh and even win the accolade of best PR and communications campaign in our degree’s annual journalism awards.

'I have worked with local companies such as Psyche as their brand ambassador and was invited to guest blog on regional news website Express North.'

Bethany, who will be giving a speech during her graduation ceremony, added: 'I thoroughly enjoyed studying at Teesside, the degree gave me so opportunities which I hadn’t even dreamed of.

'Three years ago I would not have believed I would have a successful blog, have worked with worldwide companies, acted as a brand ambassador and won an award for my work.'
