Showcase digital conference at Teesside University

Digital experts from across the country will come together to discuss what a digital future looks like for businesses including the skills that are necessary.

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations, Teesside University and Google Digital Garage are bringing the digital conference to Teesside University on 10 November, from 8.30am until 4.00pm.

It includes a guest panel comprising digital expert and author Andrew Bruce Smith, Hayden Bailey from Orca mobile, Rob Earnshaw from Teesside University’s DigitalCity, Steve Cochrane of Psyche and Kirsty Styles from North Tech .

Aimed at large to small businesses and communication professionals, academics and anyone with an interest in improving their digital understanding, delegates will hear experts discuss latest innovations in digital communications and business commerce from the Teesside business community, along with national experts.

Google has cited research showing that more than 90% of jobs will require digital literacy in the near future and that small companies can grow twice as fast when they have a strong web presence.

Chair of The Chartered Institute of Public Relations Sally Pearson said: 'This will be an exceptionally valuable event in Teesside and thanks to the partnership of Teesside University and Google Digital Garage, we are able to offer businesses access to some of the most successful digital companies both in the area and nationally. It will help practitioners in the area compete in an ever changing digital landscape.'

Professor Jane Turner, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and Business Engagement) at Teesside University, added: 'Teesside University is a catalyst for business growth, strategic partnerships and regional and national prosperity. We want to work with more global businesses to bring skills and opportunities to Teesside and attract more inward investment to the region and the digital and creative sectors are a key part of that ambition. It is vitally important that our students and graduates are equipped with the digital skills to help them progress and flourish in their chosen professions.' Google’s Digital Garage is delivering workshops as part of their commitment to upskill people in the UK and will be exploring what marketing communicators and businesses need to know in order to compete and operate successfully.

The workshops are entitled Tell Your Story Online, Reach New Customers Online and Know Your Business with Google Analytics.
