The University features in Stonewall’s top 100 UK employers – the only North East university and one of only five North East organisations to appear in the prestigious list.

Stonewall, the lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity, annually publishes its list of the top 100 places for LGBT employees to work across Britain, judged on the way each treats members of staff from the LGBT community.

Overall Teesside is at number 51 in the top 100 employers across Britain, one of the UK’s top-ranked universities.

Other North East employers listed are Your Homes Newcastle, Newcastle City Council, North East Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Teesside University is committed to embracing diversity and actively opposing prejudice.

Last year the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Croney and President of the Students’ Union, Bruna Silva signed the All Different, All Equal Pledge, part of an ongoing initiative to ensure that all members of the University community are respected and supported in an inclusive environment and feel able to challenge all forms of discrimination, hate crime, harassment and bullying.

This recognition is a reflection of the dedication and hard work from both staff and students who work together to champion equality and celebrate diversity

Michael Lavery, Teesside University Executive Director and the University’s Equality and Diversity Champion for LGBT, said: 'We are delighted to once again feature in Stonewall’s list of the top 100 LGBT employers.

'It reaffirms the University’s position as an employer which is committed to inclusivity, equality and diversity across our campus and towards all of our students and staff.'

Margaret Younger, Teesside University’s Equality and Diversity Advisor, added: 'This recognition is a reflection of the dedication and hard work from both staff and students who work together to champion equality and celebrate diversity.

'We are proud to be an employer which is wholeheartedly committed to equality.'
