BA (Hons) Film and Television graduate Srijith was studying engineering in his native India, but after hearing about the media courses and facilities on offer at Teesside, he made the bold move to switch his plans.

The 22-year-old said: 'I went to an educational fair in India and spoke to a Teesside University representative who inspired me to change direction. Although at that time I was studying engineering, I wasn’t passionate about it.

'I have always been interested in telling stories and film and television are the best mediums to do that.'

During his degree Srijith worked with a group of fellow students on a film which won prestigious professional industry awards.

The film, Shed, which examines the themes of love and loneliness, won two accolades in the 2017 Royal Television Society North East and Border Awards. Shed won the Regional Student Award: Drama, along with the Regional Student Award: Craft for production design.

For me, the whole learning process was the best part of the degree

Srijith added: 'Studying for this degree at Teesside University has helping me to follow the career path I have always wanted to take.

'For me, the whole learning process was the best part of the degree. My third year film won the audience award at the annual screening of work by students and I received the best director award too.

'I love making films and was involved in making several short films during my studies. Teesside University offers students a platform to be creative in their film-making, with support from exceptional lecturers who have industry experience.'

He added: 'I'm now more aware of what it happening in the industry and prepared for the future.'
