The launch generated significant interest, with over 50 partners present, including representatives from 18 universities from across China, seven media organisations and officials from the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Speeches were delivered by Dr David Bell, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), George Hunt, Director of International Development and also Jing (Coco) Zhao, Teesside University alumni and recent winner of a British Council ‘Spirit of Youth’ Award.

Dr David Bell, said:

“I am delighted to launch these new programmes in China. At Teesside, we place a huge importance on employability skills and prepare our students to be work-ready at the point of graduation.

We have consulted with partners across industry and education and we have designed these programmes to meet the needs of international employers recruiting new graduates.

The new programmes, which feature one semester of an industrial placement, research or study abroad, focus on enhancing students’ employability and entrepreneurship skills. It is anticipated that they will be particularly attractive to Chinese students, as they reflect the Chinese government’s own current ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative’ in higher education.
