Student volunteers started off the Christmas celebrations with their annual Santa’s Grotto display at the Unicorn Centre in Hemlington, Middlesbrough.
The University’s Volun-tees programme organised a Christmas party, with invited guests from community groups and residential care homes and support from student volunteers. Entertainment was provided by the Rockulele band.
Staff and students also generously donated to two fundraising campaigns, with the support of students from the University’s journalism degree, to help A Way Out in Stockton and the Salvation Army in Middlesbrough. Along with donations, students also set up online fundraising sites to support both organisations.
It has been a heart-warming experience
Jayne Golden, Teesside University Volunteer Co-ordinator said: 'We have been amazed by the generosity of University staff and students in support of these campaigns, helping those most in need in our community.
'We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and supporting our events.'
BA (Hons) Journalism student Jack Dodsworth, who was involved in the toy collection for the Salvation Army, said: 'Working with The Salvation Army on their Christmas toy appeal has been an absolute joy. We've been able to help children in dire need this Christmas, giving them a gift they would not receive otherwise, it has been a heart-warming experience.'
