Stonewall, the lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity, annually publishes its list of the top 100 places for LGBT+ employees to work across Britain, judged on the way each treats members of staff from the LGBT+ community.

Teesside features in the list for the third consecutive year, placed at number 67 in the top 100 employers across Britain. It is one of just 10 universities in England and the only university in the North East to be included in the top 100 list.

Teesside University is committed to embracing diversity and actively opposing prejudice. Alongside the Students’ Union, it has signed the All Different, All Equal Pledge, part of an ongoing initiative to ensure that all members of the University community are respected and supported in an inclusive environment and feel able to challenge all forms of discrimination, hate crime, harassment and bullying.

The University has also supported the Love Your Neighbour movement, an initiative which encourages people and communities to live in harmony, mutual respect and care.

Juliet Amos, Teesside University’s Executive Director (Human Resources) and Equality and Diversity Champion (LGBT+), said: 'We are delighted to once again feature in Stonewall’s list of the top 100 LGBT+ employers.

This recognition reinforces the University’s position as an employer which is committed to inclusivity, equality and diversity.

'This recognition reinforces the University’s position as an employer which is committed to inclusivity, equality and diversity across our campus and towards all of our students and staff.

'The University’s LGBT+ focus group has done an excellent job in raising awareness of this important agenda and I would like to thank them for their fantastic work which has helped us to secure this positive outcome.'

In total, 434 employers across the public, private and third sectors submitted entries to Stonewall’s Workforce Equality Index 2018. All of the top 100 are members of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme.

Darren Towers, Executive Director of Stonewall, said: 'Teesside University and all those who have made this year’s Top 100 Employers list have done a fantastic job.

'Taking part in our Index shows real commitment to understanding and advancing LGBT+ equality.'
