Winners announced at annual awards

University staff have been recognised for their outstanding achievements, dedication and long service.

The annual Star Awards, in collaboration with the Students’ Union, bring together the presentations for long service and academic achievement, with a series of special awards that recognise the contributions made by colleagues from across the University.

Over 300 nominations were received and the winners were announced during a special ceremony at the Students’ Union.

Staff were recognised in categories including Outstanding Teaching, Team of the Year and Unsung hero.

In addition, a number of long service awards were presented to staff who have completed 25 years of dedicated service to the University.

The full list of Star Awards winners are:

  • Innovation and Enterprise – Steve Dougan, Department of Academic Enterprise
  • Outstanding Teaching – Muhammad Safwan Akram, School of Science, Engineering & Design
  • Research Performance – Professor Georgios Antonopoulos, School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law
  • Outstanding Student Support Service – Sue Stockwell, Department of Academic Enterprise
  • Outstanding Leadership – Kay Coleman, School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law
  • Unsung Hero – Helen Hodgson, School of Science, Engineering & Design
  • Fantastic Feedback – Ben Lamb, School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law
  • Team of the Year – DLHE working party, Department of Academic Enterprise
  • Promoting Employability - Myriam Mallet, School of Computing, Media & the Arts
  • Most Inspirational Member of Staff – Karen Dodsworth, School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law
  • Students’ Union Staff – Stephen Goodall, Students’ Union

The judging panel included Tom Platt, President (Education) from the Students' Union, five student representatives, Malcolm Page, Chief Operating Officer, Professor Simon Hodgson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Mark Simpson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), Professor Jane Turner (Enterprise & Business Engagement), and Juliet Amos, Executive Director of Human Resources.
