The International Student Barometer (ISB) Survey 2018*, one of the biggest surveys of international students in the sector, revealed high levels of satisfaction among overseas students studying at Teesside University.

Of the 199 world universities who took part, Teesside University was ranked first for overall average satisfaction.

A total of 410 international students from Teesside University completed the ISB 2018 and they were all entered into a draw to win £100 or £50 cash prizes.

Sofia Mellingen, Chen Jiaxin and Fabio Figueiras were three of the prize draw winners and were handed their prizes by Dr David Bell, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International). Dana Tinkler was the fourth winner but was unable to receive her prize in person.

Fabio is originally from Portugal and is studying MA Concept Art at Teesside University.

He said: 'Teesside has everything you want from a university and it is a great place to study. The course is fantastic and I am happy that it receives such positive feedback from international students.'

Sofia is from Norway and is a third year BA (Hons) Concept Art student. She was offered the opportunity to study at Teesside through a partnership which the University has with Noroff University College in her homeland.

'It has been a great experience and I am really looking forward to graduating from Teesside later this year,' said Sofia.

Chen was also a student at one of Teesside University’s partner institutions – Wuhan Polytechnic University in China. She is half way through the BSc (Hons) Food and Nutrition course and said: 'It is important that international students provide feedback on their experience and I was happy to contribute and to win one of the prizes.'

We always do well in the International Student Barometer but it is still important for us to learn and to identify any areas where we can improve in the future.

Dr David Bell.

Of the 199 world universities who participated in the ISB 2018, Teesside ranked first globally for overall satisfaction with student support and the arrival experience, as well as for satisfaction with the University’s social facilities.

Teesside also ranked first among the 44 UK universities who took part in a number of key areas, including overall average satisfaction with learning, quality of lectures, course organisation, student life and accommodation.

The Students’ Union was ranked first among the 43 UK universities participating in that category, as was campus catering.

Dr Bell said: 'We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from our international students. We always do well in the International Student Barometer but it is still important for us to learn and to identify any areas where we can improve in the future.'
