Clearing advice from the University of Teesside

13 August 2001

Hundreds of students are expected to ring the University of Teesside after they receive their A'level results on Thursday 16 August to make sure they still have a place at university.

Known as 'Clearing and Confirmation' and lasting right up until mid-September, the aim is to match potential students with courses that still have vacancies.

In the past, it was mainly used by students who missed the A'level grades required for their first and second choice of courses and needed to re-think their options. Now, it is becoming increasingly popular with people making late applications to go into higher education.

The Clearing telephone numbers to ring are: General Enquiries - 01642 218121 Art & Design - 01642 384019 Business & Management - 01642 342807 Computing - 01642 342639 Health & Nursing - 01642 384110 Law and Media - 01642 384019 Social Sciences - 01642 342308 Science & Engineering - 01642 342499

"Places are still available, but maybe not on the most popular courses such as Nursing. The key thing to do is give us a ring and find-out what is available. At Teesside, we have introduced a number of new courses not listed in the 2001 prospectus and students could strike lucky and get a place on the first year of these exciting new programmes of study."

Among the new courses this year from Teesside are degrees in Web Development, Creative Multimedia, e-Business, Crime Scene Science, Forensic Psychology, Molecular Science and Public Health. The University is also piloting a two-year Foundation Degree in Chemical Technology, which provides a £1,000 bursary for first year full-time students.
