Follow the part-time path at Teesside

24 August 2001

Do you want to learn more about youth culture? Regional writing? Criminal Law? Or how to compose computer music? All these and many more are available as short courses at the University of Teesside this autumn.

To help potential students, a number of advice and guidance sessions are being held at the University during August and September. Staff will be available to talk about short courses, some of which are taught in community centres away from the University, and part-time study options at Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D), undergraduate or post-graduate level. Students do not need to commit themselves to full awards, and can get nationally-recognised certificates for small bites of learning. The advice and guidance days will be held at the University's Student Centre (entrance from Southfield Road or Borough Road) on the following days:

Wednesday 29 August 10am-7.30pm

Saturday 1 September 10am-3pm

Tuesday 4 September 10am-7.30pm*

Thursday 6 September 10am-7.30pm*

Saturday 22 September 10am-3pm*

*Students can also enrol for courses on these days.

Dr Margaret Noble, Director of the University's Centre for Lifelong Learning said: "Part-time numbers at the University of Teesside have risen from 3, 500 over the last five years and now account for over 7, 500 students. Some courses last from just a few days to a few months. More and more part-time courses can be studied in the local community, which is proving very popular with many students. Evening and day-time courses are available and fees may be waived if people are in receipt of a means-tested state benefit."
