Other - Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What if I cannot find my way round or get lost?
New environments such as a university campus can sometimes feel overwhelming at first. Don't be too worried if, to begin with, you cannot find your way around your campus. University websites usually have a campus map available on their website. Download it and take time to familiarise yourself with it. In no time you will know the campus like the back of your hand.

You can view our campus map here.

What about car parking?
Parking on campus may or may not be difficult. It very much depends on individual institutions. Check your university's website for information on car parking.

You can view our campus car parks map here.

Will there be lots of queues?
The start of a new academic year is always a busy time at any university. Inevitably, there will times during the first couple of weeks where you will be queuing. Staff will do their utmost to ensure you are dealt with as quickly as possible. Look upon the queue as being an ideal opportunity to make new friends.

'll have to travel a lot to come to university - how will I pay for this?
If you have additional costs due to travel, make an appointment with a student finance adviser who may be able to suggest sources of funding to help you with the additional expenses of travel.

At Teesside, advisers are based both within Student Services and the Advice Centre within the Students' Union.

I'm worried about travelling to my placements - what should I do?
If you are on an NHS funded course and have to attend placements as part of your course, you may be able to get financial help to assist with the costs of travel. Speak to a student financial adviser in the first instance.

Ours are based in Student Services and the Advice Centre in the Students' Union.

Will I need specialist equipment for my course?
If the course you are undertaking requires specialist equipment, you should speak to someone in your academic school/faculty for further advice on this.
