Mike is the Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Media Studies and before joining the University Mike worked in the independent film sector for 14 years as Education Manager and Film Programmer at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. He also worked for two years as a Freelance Film Education consultant, and taught on the film studies programmes at Newcastle and Northumbria Universities.

Mike has an MA in Film Studies from the University of Newcastle and his main areas of interest are British Cinema, 1960s Popular Music, Hitchcock, and classic horror cinema.

He is currently teaching Lights Camera Action: The Language of Film (with Dr Stephanie Fremaux), Cultural Events Management and Media Texts in Context, and is collaborating on Put Another Dime in the Juke Box Baby: Popular Music, Society and Culture (with Dr Stephanie Fremaux) to be taught in 2015/16.
