Penny has a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design from Liverpool Polytechnic and an MSc in Computer Aided Graphical Technology Applications from Teesside Polytechnic

She started as a junior animator at Touch Animation in London in 1991, within 2 years she was a senior animator and by 1995 she was a company director and shareholder.

After many happy and productive years at Touch Animation; in 1997 she left to start Skaramoosh with colleague Daniel Slight. Their aim was to be an independent creative company doing 3D animation and compositing.  By 2004 it had 25 employees on 3 sites including a satellite studio at the Disney Channel. It had become a medium sized facility offering design and offline and online editing as well as 3D and compositing. They also developed and co- produced their own IP products such as Spooky Sisters and Mr Moon for Disney Channel. Penny helped develop and run the company as well as being lead 3D animator.

After the birth of her first child in 2004 she decided to leave Skaramoosh and began to work part time as a freelance animator.

She continued to work as a freelance animator and became part time lecturer in animation at Teesside University in 2005

In 2009 she became a full time senior lecturer in animation at Teesside University but still does occasional enterprise with other staff including working on VFX for two feature documentaries Last Man on the Moon and Mission Control.
