Ronan Paterson gained a master’s degree in English from Trinity College, Dublin. While studying he also worked full-time as an actor in the Abbey, Ireland’s National Theatre. Since then Ronan has worked as an actor, director and producer for theatre, film and television companies in Britain and Ireland. He has appeared in, or directed for, many of the country’s leading theatres and also has extensive television credits. In addition to his work in large theatres, Ronan has worked with many small-scale touring, community theatre and TIE companies and has delivered drama work in schools, churches, prisons, youth clubs and day centres. Ronan has won national awards as both an actor and director and has at various times run five different theatre companies in Britain and Ireland. Ronan was head of Performing Arts at Newcastle College ,Programme Director for Drama at the University of Winchester, Programme Leader for Drama Theatre Arts at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh, route leader for Performance for Live and Recorded Media at Bath Spa University, and has taught in a number of other Universities, colleges and conservatoires in the UK and elsewhere. He has served on the board of various arts organisations, and was Chair of The Actor's Centre North East throughout its existence.

Research interests

Ronan has a number of research interests. He has written extensively on subjects related to Shakespeare in production, both in the theatre and in the cinema, and has spoken at conferences in Europe, Asia and Africa on Shakespeare in film. He is also interested in the pedagogy of performing arts education and training, and is currently researching for a new book on theatre history.

Enterprise interests

Ronan continues to work professionally as an actor, director and writer. In the last twelve months he has appeared in a play at the Arcola Theatre in London, recorded a voice over for a short film, featured in a television commercial and written a short film, which is to be produced in 2014.
