Lucy comes from a background in film and TV production.  She has worked principally with the BBC for 21 years, starting her career as a production assistant before moving into roles as a researcher, assistant producer, director/producer and multi-camera director.  Her main areas of interest and expertise are long-form documentaries and multi-camera broadcasts for major live events. Credits include the RTS award-winning documentary series Nurse; The Climbers; Wainwright; State Kids; ShutDown; Premier Passions; Panorama; Comic Relief; Tony Blair & the Sedgefield Experience; Children In Need; Grumpy Old Women; Great North Run; Election 2010; Junior Doctors; Music Live.

Lucy joined the Media Section at Teesside University in 2009.  As well as teaching on the Broadcast, Film & TV Production degrees she also now has a lead role in developing best practice in learning and teaching within the Section, and in forging links with partners from the broadcast industries whilst building students’ employability skills.  She continues to work on documentary and multi-camera projects as her principal area of research.

Research interests

Lucy’s research interests include developing documentary and moving image content with a factual narrative for broadcast and other platforms, focussing principally on themes of identity, cultural heritage, memory and inequality.  In an academic context her main subject area for current research is in independent learning.

Lucy holds a BA in English from King’s College, University of London, and a PGCHE.  She is a member of MeCCSA, an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of King’s College, University of London.
