North East medical sociology study group
The North East medical sociology regional study group - known to its friends as NE MedSoc - was established in 2011 under the auspices of the British Sociological Association by medical sociologists from the five universities in the North East. The group aims to bring together researchers and others with an interest in the critical sociological study of health and health service related issues and particularly to offer mentoring to early career researchers and postgraduate researchers. The group is convened by Professor Janet Shucksmith of Teesside University, and holds two half day meetings a year at which invited notable sociologists of health from outside the region join local speakers and audience members in debating some of the hot topics of the day.
