About Debbie Horne

Debbie joined the occupational therapy team in January 2009 as a senior lecturer. After qualifying in Oxford, she worked firstly as a basic grade and then a senior occupational therapist in a general and a community hospital in Yorkshire. She then began her specialist career in spinal cord injuries in the south of England.

Debbie was fortunate enough to be the senior occupational therapist in the team who set up the new spinal cord injury centre  at  The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH).

Following a career break to travel, she took the occupational therapy team leader post at Stoke Mandeville. Two years later she returned to RNOH to be part of a multi-professional, case manager team in the spinal injuries centre. Debbie did an MSc in rehabilitation management at Newcastle, graduating in 1996. She returned to North Yorkshire in the late 1990’s and worked in social services until she was appointed therapy team leader in the Golden Jubilee Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Middlesbrough, where she worked for four years.

Her professional interests are in spinal cord injuries at regional and national level and integrated working with other health professionals.

Debbie is currently working part time, doing some teaching (mainly practical subjects), auditing placements and placement support.
