The international visiting academics scheme fosters an international community of scholars in areas related to the research taking place in our research institutes.

Professor Huibiao Zhu

Date of visit: 23 April - 12 June 2012
Area of research expertise: Highly dependable systems; formal methods; formal semantics and its linking theory; process analysis and verification; process algebra.
Professor Zhu will develop ongoing collaborations on existing projects and will explore new research topics in the areas of semantic theories for complex programming models and modelling and reasoning about cyber-physical systems. As part of his visit Professor Zhu will deliver two research seminars to staff and students of the Digital Futures Institute.

Area of research expertise: Dependable distributed embedded systems
The visit will develop collaborative research work focusing on the dependability of systems based on the CAN (Controller Area Network) protocol and explore new research topics and joint projects. As part of his visit Dr Proenza will also deliver a general lecture and masterclass to staff and students of the Technology Futures Institute.
Professor Xiaoshu Cai

Area of research expertise: Multi-phase flow measurement.
Professor Cai is an expert in particle sizing, multi-phase flow measurement and steam turbine diagnosis and the visit will develop collaborative research work in gas-solids flow measurement and particle monitoring. As part of his visit Professor Cai will also deliver a lecture on recent progress on In-line measurement techniques for particulate, two-phase flow and nano-particle to staff and students of the Technology Futures Institute.
Dr. Ali Syed Arbab

Dr. Mosharraf Sarker, Technology Futures Institute

Area of research expertise: Cell biology; nuclear medicine
Dr. Arbab is an expert in imaging science and cell biology including stem cell biology. His particular research interests include anti-angiogenic and cell therapies as well as tracking of stem cells by in vivo imaging modalities following IV or local administration. The visit will develop ongoing collaborations with members of the Technology Futures Institute and explore new research topics and joint projects. As part of his visit Dr. Arbab will deliver a general lecture to staff and students and a MSC lecture and technical workshop.
Professor Mark Jones
Director, Centre for Bulk Solids and Particulate Technologies and TUNRA Bulk Solids, The University of Newcastle, Australia

Area of research expertise: De-aeration and bulk solids handling.
Professor Mark Jones has extensive experience in pneumatic conveying and industrial bulk solids handling and the visit will develop collaborative research work in flow regime modelling, creation and monitoring between Teesside University and the University of Newcastle, Australia.
As part of his visit Professor Jones will also deliver a lecture on the characterisation of pneumatically conveyed bulk solids to staff and students of the Technology Futures Institute.
