Teesside University is again taking part in the international Pint of Science festival, which aims to make scientific research more accessible.

Pint of Science delivers interesting, fun, relevant talks on the latest cutting edge science research in a relaxing environment.

This year’s festival takes place from 23 to 25 May 2016 with two venues in Middlesbrough being used - the Dickens Inn and the Café at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art.

Fourteen researchers from Teesside are taking part and will speak about a number of topics, ranging from crime scene investigation and forensic science, to chronic pain and comic representations.

Alongside the main talks, each evening will also include a range of science related activities including hands-on demos, comedy, quizzes, engaging stories and other interactive activities.

Pint of Science is a volunteer run event and a number of postgraduate students have been involved in the organisation and marketing.

Priscilla Ulguim, a PhD researcher in the School of Science & Engineering at Teesside University, has coordinated the event and said: 'After the success of Teesside’s first Pint of Science last year, we’re very proud to host the 2016 event.

'It’s really important for us to communicate our research and let everyone know about the fascinating things we’re working on.'

Award-winning international artist Simon McKeown, a Reader in Post Production and Animation in the University’s School of Arts & Media, will present a talk examining the history of animation and movement capture, state of the art methods, and future uses of technology in this area.

He said: 'There is such a wide breadth of outstanding scientific research taking place at Teesside University and it is important for that work to reach as many people as possible.

'Pint of Science is a great event that allows us to take a break from our natural work environments and talk about our work in a less formal setting.'

Tickets for Pint of Science are £4 and are available from the website
