Scientists send out invitation to join them in the pub

09 May 2017

Academics at Teesside University are set to engage their audiences in a slightly less formal setting when they take lessons from the lecture theatre and into a local pub.

Teesside University is again taking part in the international Pint of Science festival, which aims to make scientific research more accessible through interesting, fun and relevant talks on the latest cutting edge science research.

This year’s festival takes place locally from May 15 to 17 at the Dickens Inn’s coffee shop, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough. This venue is one of 26 Pint of Science locations across the country.

Researchers from Teesside University will present talks on a wide variety of topics, from using science to solve crime, to the use of radiation in combating cancer, the science of running and CPR, to local folklore to how wildlife such as bats are monitored locally.

It is important to raise awareness of some of the outstanding scientific research which is being carried out locally

Academic and researcher David Errickson

Teesside University academic and researcher David Errickson said: ‘It is important to raise awareness of some of the outstanding scientific research which is being carried out locally and to reach as many people as possible.

'The festival is a great way for academics to come out of their work environments and talk about their research with different people with a pint of beer in a less formal setting.'
