Public Health
The public health research centre at Teesside University undertakes multi-disciplinary partnership working to provide world leading, high quality, practical research solutions to real world problems. Our research is aligned with national and international priorities, with cross cutting research themes addressing:
- behaviour change
- children and young people's health
- e-health
- knowledge exchange
- nursing
- nutrition and dietetics
- obesity and obesogenic environments
- oral health
- physical activity
- the clustering of risky behaviours
This is underpinned by our strong methodological expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, systematic reviewing, service evaluation, social marketing, intervention development, co-production and embedded research.
Research within the centre is embedded within the University's grand challenge themes and teaching programmes. We work collaboratively across the other research centres and actively encourage and support co-produced multi-disciplinary research. We are privileged to have long standing collaborations with Public Health England, and a number of local authorities and third sector organisations, such as the >Institute for Local Governance and Involve North East. In addition to many established UK collaborations, we also have excellent international collaborations, which include the World Health Organisation, the Joanna Briggs Institute, the European Association for the Study of Obesity, the University of Newcastle Australia, University of Sao Paulo (Bauru) in Brazil, Indiana University in the US and Erasmus MC in the Netherlands.
We are an integral part of Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, which is a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) funded Public Health Centre of Excellence and a member of the NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR).
The public health research centre is led by a team of internationally recognised topic experts supported by a strong research team. Academic staff and researchers working in centre have an extensive publication and funding portfolio.
