SWARCO TRAFFIC LTD (STL) has over 70 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of traffic signs and control systems. The focus of SWARCO Group’s business is the effective management of transport systems, to keep traffic moving and inform and guide the traveller.

The aim of the sKTP project, which was part funded by the Technology Strategy Board, was to look at re-engineering Swarco’s Rotating Prism sign to update the design, take advantage of technology and material developments, and reduce current manufacturing costs. The project also worked towards embedding a New Product Development capacity within the organisation.

Suhail Aslam, Director of the business unit in the School of Science and Engineering was the Academic Supervisor for the project. Derek Williamson at Swarco acted as the Company Supervisor and provided daily support to Khalid Al-Awwad, the sKTP Associate appointed to take a lead on the project.
