Law, policy and practice for children and young people:
the role of social science research
This conference will critically examine the relationship between social science research and the design and implementation of law and policy concerning children and young people.

The conference will:
- explore the relationships and tensions between these objectives in a multi-disciplinary forum
- advance the role of social policy research within policy-making, practice and wider public debates.
Abstracts
Papers highlight the interconnections or tension between social science research and young people's lives within contexts including the family, education and the criminal justice system.

Publication opportunity
Selected papers from the conference will be invited to submit for publication in a special edition of Contemporary Social Science - Journal of the Academy of Social Sciences to be published in 2012.
This interdisciplinary, cross-national journal provides a forum for disseminating and enhancing theoretical, empirical and/or pragmatic research across the social sciences and related disciplines. Reflecting the objectives of the Academy of Social Sciences, it emphasises the publication of work that engages with issues of major public interest and concern across the world, and highlights the implications of that work for policy and professional practice.
